Remove any clamps or metal tape so that you can pull the dryer vent pipe free from the exhaust. To clean your dryer vent remove the outside cover on the vent and use a special lint brush with an extendable handle to clean the inside of the pipe. Also locate the dryer exhaust vent at your home s exterior. Check the vent cap at the exterior end of the duct to make sure it is clean and its flapper door works properly.

Next remove any metal tape or clamps keeping the dryer vent pipe fixed to its exhaust. The first step on how to clean a dryer vent is to unplug the dryer. Use duct brush to clean dryer duct of lint. Use manually or attach end of cleaning rod to a power drill.

Disconnect the dryer duct from the back of the dryer. Pull the dryer away from the wall about a foot to begin cleaning your dryer vent. If you have a gas dryer turn the supply valve off while cleaning. A gas leak is serious.
